Saw in the local paper that a planning application has gone in to change the old Il Vaticano restaurant into a pub.. st margaret's street there will be manic if this happens (especially if the hotel there does change into a travelinn as well )

Just had a look on Canterbury City Council's website. The planning application is from 'Stoneset Inns', the trading name of the licensees of the City Arms.
They're aiming for older clientele and tourists and will be doing food. There'd be a beer garden, and it'd be open 10am-11pm (midnight for people eating).
As the building is listed it may take a while before we see any progress on this one. For reference, the planning application number is CA//06/01170 (decision 14th Nov).

On the subject of Slatters Hotel, it now has planning permission for a restaurant/bar/pub on the ground floor.

Wow... even more pubs inside the walls. I thought there were a lot already :-)

An article in the gazette says that stoneset inns are more than likely going to get planning permission for the former il vaticano site but will be keeping to the old 11pm closing time. Im sure that will change in the future though!

It'll be nice to see the vaticano property open again... that street has been a bit "closed down".
It is certainly becoming a pub strip :-)
